Abstract
This research has been done at Altındağ Social Center and Ulus Youth Center of Social Services and Child Protection Authority General Directorate and Altındağ Youth Center of Ankara Greater Municipality, with 250 children ages between 10 and 18 using interview techniques.Almost half of the interviewed children were primary education students and the other half was attending high school and one third of the all was working to contribute to family budget. It is seen that neither these children nor their families were benefiting the cultural facilities available at town.In this research work, we see that %92 of the children interviewed subjected to physical violence, almost all subjected to emotional violence and %1,2 subjected to sexual abuse in the family. Our findings show that the violence against children is closely correlated with the family income level, the location and the quality of the family house. In addition to above, it is found that the level of the physical and emotional violence against children is related also the original town of the parents, length of time spent at capital city, unity of the family and the parents, employment state and the education level of the parents, and if the father of the family is violent against the mother.The attitude of parents with respect to the gender and the ages of childeren has been investigated. We found that the level of physical and emotional violence or the tender attitude of the parents differs with the gender and ages of the childeren and also the eceonomical contribution of the childeren to the family. Main reason for the physical violence to childeren both by father and mother is the disobeyence of the childeren to the orders of them.The level of violence is getting lower as the age of childeren is getting older and differentiate with respect to the gender of the childeren. The level of violence that childeren are subjected at school and streets is also related to their genders. The acceptance of violence applied in the family increases with the age og the childeren.The reaction against being subject to violence differs according to the gender of childeren, even if in general they justify the way they are being treated. We found that the boys develop feelings of shame and anger while the girls develop fear and guiltiness, when subjected to violence.
